Okoro’s eight scoreless innings put the Mariners one win from the next round

Dani Okoro struck out 11 in Bay City, and the Mariners lead the series 2–1 with Game 4 tonight.

Dani Okoro has spent three seasons being told he throws too many pitches. On Monday night in Bay City he threw 104 of them, and the Gulls never got a runner past second base.

Okoro struck out 11 over eight scoreless innings in a 6–0 win that gives the Mariners a 2–1 lead in the best-of-five series. Game 4 is tonight at 7:05 p.m. in Bay City; a win sends Port Avalon to its first league championship series since 2004.

“He was locating the changeup to both sides of the plate,” manager Ruth Calloway said. “When he does that, the fastball looks like 100.”

Four runs in the fourth

The Mariners broke it open in the fourth inning. Theo Castillo doubled down the left-field line to score two, and catcher Benji Ward followed with a two-run single on the first pitch he saw.
