Avalon State needed three stops from its own 2-yard line with 40 seconds left on Saturday, and got all three. The 24–21 win over Northgate in front of 31,000 at homecoming leaves the Gulls 5–3 and one win from bowl eligibility.
Linebacker Jordan Pike made two of the stops. “We practice that every Thursday,” he said. “Coach calls it the hardest two yards in football.”
The Gulls play at Riverton next Saturday.
